The Calling

It is with great purpose we come together.

During our trying times of environmental, economical, and social challenges we call upon the teachings of Hawai’i and the greater Pacific Rim to guide the way.

In the times before European contact

There was an estimated 1 million people who inhabited the Hawaiian Islands. Nearly as many living here now. These 1 million people occupied 20% of all lands, leaving the other 80%, untouched wild-untamed. The ‘aina (land) was considered ohana (family), and many regions considered sacred, the realms of Akua (the Creator). The small percentage of land occupied was heavily farmed and managed through the Ahupua’a system and the people of Hawai’i lived well with an abundance of food, clean water and all needed resources. Now a days, nearly the same amount of residents occupy 80% of the Hawaiian lands, with only about 20% of it left untouched - mainly mountain tops and river gulches. Hawai’i is now heavily dependent on the importation of goods, with many of rivers running dry, springs polluted, and people displaced from their ancestral lands. But…

There is still hope

Through the emergence of place-based knowledge systems from the peoples of the Pacific

We build a model of regenerative living for not only the Islands of Hawai’i, but the world at large. Through the council of our Kumus (Master Teachers), Kupunas (Elders) and Kahus (Wisdom Keepers) from Hawai’i and other Pacific Nations together with Environmental Scientists, we share the knowledge systems that have sustained regenerative living for hundreds of generations and adapt them to the current needs of our times. Empowering the youth and local community through place-based & cultural-based educational programing. From land & water management practices, mystery teachings, healing modalities, governance models, seasonal studies, environmental adaptation, emergency preparedness plans, and the arts — we come together to build a model for a new society. One that prioritizes the health of our lands, abundance of natural resources for our children, safety of our women, and the comfort of our Elders. So that we may not only survive the ever increasing social, economical and environmental challenges, but fully thrive in these trying times.
