WHY WE GATHER
In ancient times
Our ancestors from all 4 corners of the world celebrated the changes of time. Guided by celestial alignments and the cycles of nature, they structured their day’s work, their month’s movements, their seasonal offerings & celebrations. Living in full relationship with the environment, balance was found and harmony established.
We now live in societies so disconnected from place, in many cities we can’t see the stars anymore. The moon hides under a haze of smog, and the sun blazes so strongly it hurts our mitochondria.
We have raised a society that has forgotten our intrinsic interdependent relationship to our biosphere. Our rivers run dry, our oceans polluted, our soil depleted and our air toxic.
and we wonder why we are sick…
We have forgotten how the movements of the moon impact the flow of our food, and our tides of emotions. We have forgotten to listen, to observe, and most specially… to serve.
It is with this call back to right alignment to place we gather as the day and the night reach perfect equilibrium.
It is with a prayer of remembrance of knowledge systems almost completely forgotten
By a society too reliable on unreliable artificial technologies,
We have forgone our very natural intelligence.
It is with a prayer for the revival of our Mother, the Earth, on the very day she re-awakens.
It is with a prayer for the emergence of our human consciousness, on the very day the shadow of the Earth renders the moon blood red.
On a Spring Equinox day and a Lunar Eclipse night, we ignite our native technologies from the 4 corners of the world, and come into right alignment once again
with our ecosystem
and the cycles of time.
This is an Ode to Hina.
ABOUT SPRING
In the Hawaiian Wheel,
as passed down to us by Kahu Kalani Souza, the Spring Equinox is correlated to the direction of East, the element of Earth, the concept of rebirth, the archetype of the Mother, the Goddess Hina, and the 1st phase of water: Springs. This celestial event initiates the end of Makahiki and the beginning of Kauwela - the dry season in Hawai’i. A time for celebration and abundance as the seeds begin to grow and the Earth blooms.
On this special day of a full moon lunar eclipse, we gather on the Eastern most point of the Hilo/Hamakua coast at the lands of the Dragon Heart amidst the springs and the ocean, in celebration of the rebirth of the earth as we honor Hina, the Mother Goddess of Abundance and the changing tides. We celebrate the day from sunrise to moonrise through prayers, chants, offerings, live music, art creation, cove dips and so much more…

THE HUI
THE HUI
From the 4 corners we hail.
Gathering in the Rainbow Country, we unite as one people and as one shared intelligence. Lead by the Kumus and Kahus of these lands we begin our day and open the space. From Polynesia & Oceania to North & South America. From South, East, North & Central Asia, to North & West Europe and Africa… all the way to Pleiades, Sirius and galaxies too far away. Our traditions weave through a common thread into a rainbow tapestry throughout the day. Through food, prayers, practices, music, dance and chants we praise our Mother, the Earth, and pray to our very stem cells, the Springs. Guided by the wisdom of our kupunas and the spirit of our keikis we celebrate the day, and remember once again that Aloha is the way.
From Hawaiian protocols, to African beats. From Mayan cacao to Chinese tea. From Middle Eastern food to Japanese chants. From Egyptian rites to Brazilian dance. From Pagan sacraments to Native American drum. Aloha y’all, it’s time to give thanks.
A note of kindness: this is a substance free, love filled, keiki friendly, kupuna lead, community weaved, nature based gathering.
